Frequently Asked Questions
Applying for enrolment
You can apply to Raworth College for admission by clicking the Application details link that appears on each Course Details page: you can send us a mail via the Contact Us link in the box on the left. Or, if you prefer, you can write to us, telephone, or send a fax. Whichever method you use we'll be delighted to hear from you and will do all we can to help you gain admission and achieve your goals. Once we have agreed your programme with you, payment of the deposit fee will secure your place on the classes according to our published conditions.
When you can start
Most course programmes have three intakes a year for weekday study and two for the weekends. These are: September, January and April for weekday study, and October and February for study at weekends.
College entry requirements
At Raworth we do not grant admissions solely on a candidate's academic background. We also look for qualities such as interpersonal skills, a naturally therapeutic mind-set, and a personality that is clearly suited to the courses we offer. Furthermore, we accept students of all ages and backgrounds, from all over the UK and from abroad and actively employ an equal opportunities policy.
Coursework assessment
Continuous assessment applies to all courses. To gain a qualification, candidates must submit a portfolio of assessed work, and, depending on the course, there may be practical and theory examinations. Full details will be given at your Induction Day and you will be updated throughout your training.
Weekly college attendance
Full-time study equates to three to four days per week and part time is anything from one day per week. Most courses can be studied in a flexible way.
Extent of home study
You should expect approximately five hours per subject per week, plus case studies, and any required clinic time.
Class hours
Classes start at 10 a.m. and finish at 4.30 p.m. for weekday and weekend sessions, with one hour for lunch and a short break in the morning and afternoon.
Weekend study
Many courses can be completed entirely by weekend study. Others will be studied primarily at weekends but will nevertheless require occasional weekday attendance. For practical reasons, a number of courses are not available at all for weekend study. Each Course page will give you more details.
Weekday and weekend classes
Occasionally, weekday students will need to attend a weekend lecture. In such cases we will provide you with as much notice as possible.
The qualifications that you will gain
In addition to our valued Raworth qualifications we offer a wide range of external awards which are recognised by professional bodies the world over.
Overseas students
Raworth College actively welcomes students from overseas. Do not be discouraged from applying if it is too difficult for you to come for a formal interview at the college. You can still be interviewed via on-line communications and the telephone and fax. However, you must have an intermediate standard of English to study here and provide certificates of language study to this level.
Overseas students' visas
United Kingdom Students' Visas will normally be granted to Raworth students from overseas, providing you study for at least 15 hours - or three study days - per week.
We are listed on The Register of Education and Training Providers (number 20171) and we will be happy to help you with your visa application .
Student accommodation
Student accommodation in Dorking is mostly with host families who live quite near to the college. It will probably take you between 10 and 30 minutes to walk to the college.
Raworth College keeps a list of host families and the students living with them. We can therefore help you with arranging accommodation of this type. The cost of accommodation with a host family is between £80 and £100 per week. This pays for your accommodation only, and you will be responsible for your own shopping and cooking.
Studying by Distance Learning
Some of Raworth's Core Modules can be studied by flexible distance learning. Furthermore, it is possible, in some cases, to intersperse class attendance with distance study (for theory-based modules) should this prove to be of benefit to you.
Practising during training
Thanks to Raworth's modular training model, it is possible for you to achieve the qualifications and insurance cover you need to start practising before you have completed your chosen programme in its entirety. This can help you to build your client-base - and generate income - whilst you continue to study.
Exemptions for previous study
In some cases exemptions from certain modules will be applicable if you can demonstrate that such subjects have been previously covered. To gain a qualification, you may well still be required to sit an examination in the subject(s), but you may not need to attend the classes.
Changing timetable
At Raworth, we pride ourselves on our flexibility: we will always change your programme - even when part-way through - wherever possible. Unfortunately, however, in these cases we are unable to make any refund on course fees.
Additional costs
Your fees include all class activities, course notes, exam registrations and any special kits required (for example, essential oils for aromatherapy or reflexology kits for reflexology courses). However, you will need to pay for your course text books most of which we stock at college and can often be purchased by you at a discount. Also, when you enrol on a practical course you will need to buy a college uniform from the college office.
